The 2018 Bournemouth Air Festival will take place between Thursday 30th August through to Sunday 2nd September.
2018 marks the eleventh anniversary of the Bournemouth Air Festival. It has grown in both size and content over the years. It is now the most highly attended air show in the UK and (of course) its free! The air show centres on the beach area surrounding Bournemouth Pier. Anyone on Eastcliff Beach or Westcliff Beach will be guaranteed a superb view. Even on beaches further away there is often a better view of the aircraft than you get at many airfield bound shows.
More than just an Air Show
But Bournemouth Air Festival is now anything but a normal air show. The Royal Navy brings one or two of its warships into the bay. They offer tours around the vessels for those who are interested in getting up close to a navy ship. A large naval flying contingent complements the ships. Marines perform a mock beach assault. The Army will be there. They bring along some seriously impressive vehicles and are a major participant in the event.
Last year we lost one day to bad weather. But even so over 700,000 people attended over the four days of the display.
Bournemouth Air Festival Parking
As you can appreciate parking can become an issue unless you plan your journey. Bournemouth council sets up three park and ride sites which are the best bet for anyone coming in for the day.
There will be more information on these park and ride sites as things firm up over the year The cost is usually between £10.00 and £12.00 for all day parking with free bus transport to the sea front. Each year the Air Festival gets bigger and better, so this year expect more stunning displays and an even greater variety of airshow events.
