West Cliff Beach is a primary Bournemouth beach. It occupies the beach strand from the West of Bournemouth Pier up to Durley Chine Beach. West Cliff beach is primarily composed of a fine cream coloured sand.
R.N.L.I lifeguards regularly patrol the beach. Deck chairs and wind breaks are readily available for hire. There are toilets, cafes and ice cream sellers. The lifeguards run a KidZone scheme in the summer. It helps prevent children getting lost on the beach. Each child is issued with a coloured wrist band which identifies the area he/she is from. On this coloured band there is a space for a parent to write a phone number. Since its inception several years ago, the KidZone scheme has been very successful and many other resorts have now copied it.
Pedestrian access to Westcliff beach can be made from either Bournemouth Pier, Durley Chine or via the Zigzag leading down from the cliff top. There is also a cliff lift that operates during the summer. Details of the schedule and costs for using this lift can be found On This Link
West Cliff beach can get quite crowded in the summer but provides a friendly family environment. Bournemouth town centre is quite close and so it is easy to pack up and walk up through the central gardens to the main shopping area. Alternatively, visitors can walk further west along the beach. It is in fact possible to walk right the way to Sandbanks and the ferry going to Studland Bay. Its just a long way!
There is an aquarium near to the beach so if it starts to rain entertainment is readily at hand! For a family day out, digging the sand, bathing in the safe waters or sunning yourself, West Cliff beach is ideal.
